What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small files that a website stores in your browser. Browsers also offer local storage, which works in a similar way. Websites use both to make pages work, to remember choices and to keep things secure.
This policy covers the Ayut website at https://ayut.dev. It does not cover the desktop app, which keeps its settings and records on your device. See our Privacy Policy for how personal data is handled.
What We Use
Session cookie
- Name:
_ayut_key - Set by: us (first party)
- Purpose: This is Ayut’s session cookie. It keeps you signed in after you log in, remembers the language you chose, carries the secret that protects our forms against forgery (CSRF), and holds short messages such as “Signed in successfully” and the page to return to after you sign in.
- Lifetime: It is a session cookie. It has no set expiry, so your browser normally removes it when you close it (some browsers keep session cookies if they restore your tabs), and signing out ends your session. It is sent only to Ayut, and it is not sent with most requests that start on other websites (SameSite: Lax).
- Type: Essential. The site needs it to work. We set it when you first visit, because it holds your language, even before you sign in.
Theme preference
- Name:
phx:theme - Where: your browser’s local storage, not a cookie
- Purpose: Remembers if you chose light or dark. If you leave the theme on “system”, nothing is stored and Ayut follows your device.
- Lifetime: It stays until you change it or clear your browser data. It is not sent to us.
- Type: Preference.
Cloudflare Turnstile
- Set by: Cloudflare (third party)
- Purpose: Turnstile checks that sign-in and registration are done by a person, not a bot. Its script loads on our pages. Cloudflare also sits in front of our site as a network and security layer. Cloudflare may use its own cookies or browser storage and may collect your IP address and browser signals for these purposes. We do not control what Cloudflare sets. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy for details.
- Type: Essential for security.
Unsaved text
A few shared tools in the signed-in app, such as the document editor, may keep a backup of unsaved text in your browser’s local storage so you do not lose it. It stays on your device until you save or clear it, and it is not sent to us until you save.
Other Third-Party Requests
Our pages load fonts from Google Fonts. This is not a cookie, but your browser sends Google your IP address and browser details when it fetches them.
What We Do Not Use
- No advertising cookies
- No cross-site tracking
- No analytics or tracking scripts in your browser
We do measure how the service performs and find faults on our servers. That is described in the Privacy Policy and does not use cookies.
How to Control Cookies and Storage
You can block or delete cookies and local storage in your browser settings. If you block or delete the session cookie, you will be signed out and you will not be able to sign in. If you clear local storage, Ayut forgets your theme choice. We do not ask for consent for the essential items above, because the site cannot work without them.
Changes to This Cookie Policy
We may update this policy when the cookies or storage we use change. We will post the new version on this page.
